I remeber Vices. I loved that album in my early teens. It didn't quite stand the test of time for me, but every so often, I crank it on my ZVM(aka MP3 player that is not an iTurd).
I'm also a fan of Metal Church. Have you heard their self titled album yet, Knetz? That or The Dark, is their best effort.
Lately i've been getting into the 1976-1982 era of Genesis, thanks to the box set that came out a few months back. It's my favorite period of the band, and having the albums in 5.1 surround sound is just drool worthy. I've also obtained a ton of bootleg shows from that era, so it's been a Genesis marathon at my house for a couple of months. I think my wife is about to throw the home theater system out of the window on me.
I've also getting into a few band's albums that I missed last year. Those bands being Frost, Kino, and A.C.T. Some good stuff right there. Last week I picked up two great new albums from Deadsoul Tribe and The Flower Kings, and today I got the latest Riverside(Polish Prog Metal) album, which is outstanding.
Another band I have been getting into, is a band from Texas called Fair To Midland. Their album Tales From a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Time is True has some great songs on it. They have a bit of a modern rock sound to them, but there's something about them that lets me enjoy them more than the corporate drivel on the radio these days.
Last but not least, I can't leave out the latrst effort by a band called Circus Maximus. Their latest album Isolate is one of the better hard rock/metal albums of the year. Knetz, you would probably really enjoy this album. Check it out, if you can find it.
the Metal Church album I wanna hear is Hanging in the Balance, the song No Friend of Mine off that one just kicks ass...simply put, I actually prefer Mike Howe's vocals to David Wayne, I think it tends to be the other way around, nonetheless...Metal Church is great, I've heard a few of their earlier songs with David Wayne and some with Howe...both good, a band I've read about but cant find anything by them is Flotsam and Jetsam...its kinda disappointing but I'll have to see what I can do
I've also been listening to some Nevermore and Overkill, and Mechanical Resonance by Tesla is great, also been into some Iron Savior, Saxon(Unleash the Beast album), Pantera(Cowboys from Hell), and some early Yngwie stuff with Alcatrazz and Steeler
and some good fun metal with stuff like Ugly Kid Joe and Spinal Tap(lmao that is some hilarious stuff!!)
Damn, my local used shop has three Flotsam and Jetsom albums collecting dust on the shelf as I type this. No Place For Disgrace was my favorite of theirs. I might even pick it up this weekend, so they might end up being down to two.
Tesla is a great band. Their first two albums are "must haves" for any fan of hard rockin' music. If there is one Saxon album to get, it's The Eagle Has Landed. Not the 2nd or 3rd version, but the first one. That is all the Saxon one will ever need.
knetzke11:I wanna get the album Vices by Kick Axe!!! anyone remember them? the couple songs I've heard have been some pretty fun metal tunes, get the head moving a little bit, the screams are pretty sweet too, and the solos sound cool...I'm not sure I'll be finding anything by them though, they never are mentioned anywhere, I havent checked to see if they're still together and making music or not, if they are then the chances are a lot higher, I've already run into the "out of print" problem more than once...
Kick Axe are a great band. To me they are Canada's Motley Crue. They should have been much bigger. Also, they did a couple of songs called "Nothin's Gonna Stand In Our Way" and "Hunger "on The Transformers soundtrack, not the movie that came out this year but the old cartoon movie. Strangely they went under the name "Spectre General" because "Kick Axe" apparantly isn't appropriate enough to be on a soundtrack of a kids movie. Both of the songs are great. They got back together in 2003 with their original singer who left before they recorded their first album Vices. The rest of the band is original as well. In 2004 they recorded a new album simply called Kick Axe IV. Its a pretty good album.
Today I picked up the new Coheed and Cambria album, No World For Tomorrow. Pretty damn good, if I must say so.
Wow, the echo in here is unreal.
Anyway, today I picked up...
Blind Melon - Soup
Big Country - King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents
Scorpions - Blackout & Lovedrive (Import cover, with the gum on the...)
Now I can give some of my Scorpions vinyl a long needed rest. THey have been going strong for well over 20 years.
I've been listening to Grave Digger, Rage, Running Wild, Hammerfall, Kingdome Come, Rob Rock(really good stuff, almost hard to tell he's not with Impellitteri anymore), Sanctuary, Silent Force, Sinner, Soulmotor, and Testament lately...
oh, and Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn-my fav neo-classical album
and I've been listening to XYZ's Letter to God album a lot, Terry Ilous still has an awesome voice!
eagle81:Lately for me it's been Dragonforce,Fuel, some of Manowar,Silverchair old albums Frogstomp/Freak show,Skidrow w/bach only,A little of Southgang and trying to get back into Queensryche have been a fan sense Warning just have'nt cared for the lineup changes, they need Chris back
I would get into Dragonforce if I didnt know that they sped up their solo's in studio and played horrible live because of that...well that and the fact that they get hammered before shows, Herman Li is a very very sloppy player
