I dont necessarily know what this guy was listening to...I can't really stand the reviewers that try to say their opinion is the only right one. When he tries to speak for the fans is when it gets a bit ridiculous. Unless Rik's voice got a lot worse since the Sweden show...I donno what he's hearing because Rik didnt sound bad at all on the recording I have of Sweden. Sure its not the same type of voice he used to sing with, its actually a lot more aggressive sounding now that he cant hit the high notes and isnt really trying to get all the way up there. Whatever though, everyone has their own opinions I just dont like it when he says that the die hard fans wouldnt even like it because then he's telling what other people's opinions are.
OC, Hank, whoever else may have attended...did half the crowd leave during RMW? I hadn't heard anything about that going on.
About the only thing I can agree with that reviewer on is the fact that Rocky Mountain Way should be dropped. But if he was as big as Triumph fan as he claims then he would not let it bother him so much. I was never much of a fan of that song to begin with, including Triumph's version, but the one thing that makes it easy to deal with is the same thing that reviewer lacked.Up until Triumph was inducted in the Hall Of Fame, the chances of a reunion were, like Tracey at Glam-Metal.com said in her pre-amble, as good as seeing gasoline back beneath two dollars a gallon. There is a handful of songs they could choose from instead of Rocky Mountain Way but the fact that the three men are all together on stage again playing, is enough.I did not attend either show, but no matter how the band sounded I would have stayed no matter what.Maybe that reviewer heard/seen Live At The US Festival or Night Of Triumph, called himself a fan , and decided to compare only the second performance by the band in over twenty years, to those two shows.
Daleq2k:I Was standing way in the back stuck in the mud. i didint see anybody leave. Dude that wrote that actical had his head way deep in his **s.
He probably just likes hearing himself talk is all. He also made a reference to XYZ not being appreciative of what rockeyez.com does...wtf, I've never even heard of the website so I don't think their contributions to the band can be all that large. I'm a big XYZ fan and simply the fact that they didnt appreciate the website made him not even CARE about them and already gave a bad impression about the band. I think the guy has his reviews influenced too much by factors other than the music itself.
I was at the Rocklahoma show as well...way up at the very front...and since my attention was focused more on the great musicians on stage, I was not paying attention to whether people were leaving behind me or not. I told Rik after the show that despite having to overcome some sound issues I thought he sounded great and his guitarwork was brilliant as always. Must be the die-hard fan in me.
Wonder what rockeyez will say about Zebra on Day 5? Most likely these guys slept in late on Sunday morning and missed them.
Too bad for all these people if they left.... But it gave us more room to witness a "historical moment" !!!
If that idiot that did the review had been to one of Rik's show in the last 10 years, he would know that his voice has changed and he would know what to expect from him. I'm really happy with the way he sounds, i guess because i've been seeing him live at almost every show he did in or near Ottawa in the last 10 years.
And who cares about the setlist, they were on stage again, that is the important thing here...
And if that idiot was sleeping late sunday, too bad for him, because ZEBRA were awesome !!!!
madmax:We were in the gen admission area right behind the seating, and noticed there were a lot of people leaving about midway through the Triumph set. Not sure if it was Rocky Mountain Way or the desire to beat the traffic out, but there was a fairly noticeable exodus about midway through the set.
Were you there other days madmax? If so did people leave during other headliners? That is getting pretty late for all you old farts! haha, just teasing!
I never have thought that live you could draw out songs too long...I thought thats sorta what playing live was about. Get to jam out and have some fun...and I know a lot of T fans have wanted longer shows. Maybe if they do a tour we'll get that. Perhaps not more songs but longer jam versions of well known songs?
Also, I dont quite get the "Rik Emmett's voice is shot" and then "beautiful rendition of Magic Power" how do those two fit together?
Okay, for a band with as many good songs as Triumph, I can understand the disappointment in RMW filling a slot. (though the guitar work from Rik & Dave in this case is ample consolation) Still, why would any real fan be all that shocked? How many tours have they played that on now? At -least- five?
And I'll confess I think the Rik & Dave only version of Hold On was a bit of a cop out, that -should- have been another full band song. Beyond that, I think this guy needs to stop trying to be a critic. Because that's exactly what he sounds like; nothing insightful to say, just a bunch of lame attempts at trying to convince himself that anybody other than his mom actually cares what he thinks.
If my browser had an ignore button for websites, this one would merit the use of it. URL should be www.rockbuttholz.com instead.
Did not go to any other days of Rocklahoma other than Triumph, so I cannot speak to how many early departures occurred on other nights. I'm sure the late hour had something to do with it - it got pretty late, and at our age the heat of the day sure sapped a lot of energy. On top of that an hour drive back to Tulsa for those with hotels there. So I'm sure all considered, leaving early might have been appealing to those who were only marginal Triumph fans.
