    Re: New Metallica

I have high expectations for the forthcoming Rubin-produced album.  St. Anger was a letdown.  Master of Puppets is a classic metal album and perhaps one of the greatest of all time.  The Sport of Kings and MOP were released the same year; a new wave of metal was taking over.

By the way, Lars and James were Triumph fans.  I have this biography (Omnibus Press) were Lars talks about going out to purchase the new Triumph album (POP).  Metallica alumnus, Dave Mustain, was also a big Triumph and Rik Emmett fan.

    'tallica...

    eh, Kirk sucks haha

My favorite Metallica is the first 3 albums.  Basically the stuff they ripped Dave Mustaine off for.  After that Kirk went to the wah pedal for everything.  Dave pretty much made Metallica and they became successful copying his songs...note for note sometimes.

think about this...Kill Em All came out at the same time as Never Surrender!!!  Ride the Lightning same year as T7...

    I like Megadeth more

Can't you feel the magic, feel it everywhere, Can't you hear the music, there's something in the air, There's a celebration, deep within a song, Celebrate this feeling, you know it can't be wrong

Agreed with all of this, Megadeth is much better. Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning were tremendous albums, they will never get back to that.

    Re: New Metallica

I never got into thrash type metal. I like my metal more melodic. I have to confess my ignorance of early Metallica and I've heard only a few Megadeath tunes which, truly, were pretty good. I'll have to dig deeper some, day.

Metallica ranks as one of those bands that makes my list of "Groups I as a bassist would least want to play with."

Lars has an ugly drumming style. I really can't think of any better adjective for it. It often just sounds awkward and crude. Hettfield just seems like an absolute D**K. And I agree with the general comments on Hemmet and his wah addiction. I have a theory that Cliff Burton really committed suicide rather than go on with that gig.

In all fairness, I should mention there are a few later day Metallica songs I like. Hero of the Day, The Unforgiven, Until it Sleeps and their cover of Whiskey in the Jar are all tunes I will generally listen to when they show up on the radio. Also, there is the fact they have managed to be massively popular for many years now, so what the hell do I know! ;D

Don't look back in anger, don't look ahead in fear. You just keep takin' her as she comes, until she comes in clear. The love you send out, returns to you in time.
