    Thunder Seven

What is the background behind the name Thunder Seven?

Was it chosen at random? Is there a literary reference?

What are the first six thunders?

I've wondered this for the last 20 years.

    Re: Thunder Seven

As the following link notes, it's taken from Marshall McLuhan's "War and Peace in the Global Village":

Also, the liner notes of T7 refer to "tribal man again."

    Re: Thunder Seven

it was their 7th album too, so Thunder Seven makes sense-not just a random thing
Can't you feel the magic, feel it everywhere, Can't you hear the music, there's something in the air, There's a celebration, deep within a song, Celebrate this feeling, you know it can't be wrong

And, if you want to take it further, the "thunder" also alludes to the band aiming for soundscape-territory covered by Led Zeppelin, aka The Hammer of the Gods. Imagine Mike Levine dressed as The Mighty Thor in concert, holding his bass out in front of him like...well, a hammer!

    Re: Thunder Seven

There is a very good, brief description of this at the 'old' 'Triumph Site'

    http://rockandrollmachine.net/News___Info/...seven_tour.html

You will hear Rik mention Marshall McLuhan's books occasionally, and he (MM) referenced James Joyce's 'Finnegans Wake' to make the above mentioned title 'War and Peace in the Global Village'.

You can read more about him here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_McLuhan

Has anyone tried reading James Joyce? I tried reading Finnegans Wake a couple of times, and couldn't get past page 2.

PS Anyone ever heard from Slim (web guy at rockandrollmachine.net)?

    Okay, trivia question..........

What was the working title to Thunder 7 before it was given that name?

    Re: Thunder Seven

I'm not sure, but if they used a name of a song for the title of the album, Rock Out, Roll On would have been a cool album title...

I believe it was Inner Mission.

Not sure about that one, it might have been a title under consideration, but not the answer I had in mind. There was a title that was chosen that was scrapped at the last minute because it was too similar to an album title that was coming out by another band.

Okay, no other guesses, I suppose. I recall that the Thunder 7 album had a working title of "Turning Wheels", but that name was scrapped because REO Speedwagon had either just released or was about to release their album entitled "Wheels are Turning".

    Re: Thunder Seven

Not related to Thunder 7 but reading that last post I recall an interview with Mike saying they thought of using "Battle Cry" for the Never Surrender album, but thought it sounded too "Judas Priesty". I think they made the better choice.
